Executive Management Committee - Introduction

The role of the Executive Management Committee (EMC) is to drive the GSMA's operational activities in the areas of products, services and technology, and provide guidance to the GSMA Board on its strategy and vision. This work is then implemented via the GSMA's various project teams and Working Groups, all of which report directly to the EMC.

Special Project teams are created for specific initiatives and then disbanded when their goals have been achieved. In addition, there are several permanent Working Groups that concentrate on issues that are fundamental to the GSM community, such as interoperability, roaming, security and service development.

The EMC comprises 23 Members, currently including 22 operator representatives and the GSMA's CTO Alex Sinclair. The EMC is chaired by Stein Hansen, VP Group Technology at Telenor, who also has a seat on the GSMA Board.

EMC PROJECTS

IP Interworking (IPI)

IP Interworking (IPI)

The GSMA has developed a commercial model for interworking for mobile IP-based services that establishes a high-quality interworking environment, in addition to the current best-effort Internet model. The intention of the mobile industry, spearheaded by the GSM Association via its IP Services Programme, is to build on the success of GSM and maintain the key business principles when it comes to delivering mobile IP services.

EMC PROJECTS

IP Roaming Exchange (IPX)

IP Packet Exchange (IPX)

The GSMA's IP Packet Exchange (IPX) project is underway, aimed at enabling customers in any network to contact each other using reliable and secure IP multimedia services. The IPX network will offer a number of key advantages over the open Internet, including guaranteed Quality of Service.

EMC PROJECTS

Instant Messaging (IM)
