Refugee Connectivity
Refugee Connectivity

Solution

The GSMA Development Fund in partnership with the UNHCR, MTN Uganda and Ericsson will pilot the introduction of GSM connectivity into refugee settlements in northern Uganda.

It is planned that 'Shared Access to Voice' and 'Shared Access to Data' services will be introduced. These have been successfully piloted working with local mobile operators in Algeria, Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Africa and Uganda.

Once the pilot has proven to be a sustainable concept, this solution will be taken to new refugee territories with enhanced product and service offerings with a particular emphasis on education, health and economic development.
