Safer Mobile Use

Welcome to GSM Europe's Safer Mobile Use microsite. This site is maintained by GSM Europe to provide information and to raise awareness about concrete measures taken by the mobile phone sector to increase the safety of children and younger teenagers using mobile phones.

The mobile phone industry recognises that with increasing digital convergence, mobile services offer children an additional way to consume content such as video images, music and chat. As responsible companies, mobile operators already work with customers, parents and other stakeholders, including children's charities, to address potential risks. National and corporate measures to provide for safer mobile use by children have been developed in a majority of EU Member States. The aim of the European Framework for Safer Mobile Use by Younger Teenagers and Children, an EU-wide, cross-industry initiative, is to support the development of national codes of conduct across the EU as a whole.

In co-operation with the European Commission, GSM Europe is actively encouraging other stakeholders to join its members' efforts to make mobile phone use safer for children. This site is one of the means to share information and best practice. It will continue to grow and be updated. You are encouraged to visit regularly.
