Roaming Rates Website Expanded to New Member States
22nd January 2007 - Brussels: European mobile operators have today extended their website which compares roaming prices across Europe (www.roaming.gsmeurope.org) to include two new languages, making it even easier for European mobile users to access transparent information on roaming rates.
Building on its success to date, the website will now be available in eight languages with the addition of Polish and Czech, enabling nearly 50 million additional EU citizens to compare and find the best roaming prices in their native language. Given the popularity of the site in Central Europe, it will also be enlarged to include Bulgarian and Romanian operators.
GSM Europe (GSME) launched the website for consumers in July 2006 to compare the best roaming offers of about 75 European operators, making it the most comprehensive and accurate source of roaming information for people making and receiving mobile phone calls when travelling in the EU. The site is most popular among travellers from Germany, Poland and Spain, with the UK and France also providing a large proportion of the searches. France is the top destination country searched.
"Mobile phone customers are looking for the best roaming prices from a range of competing plans," said Kaisu Karvala, Chair of GSME. "Expanding this service will make the market even more transparent and show the diverse range of prices on offer."
"It is in mobile operators' interest to give customers full transparency on roaming tariffs," added Gunnar Forsgren, Vice President from TeliaSonera. "We need, however, to be sensitive to the fact that customers are different and that we will need more than just one way of providing price information".
