GSMA Research

The GSMA supports an active program of research addressing possible health risks from the radio signals used to provide mobile services. Since the year 2000, approximately €10 million has been committed to independent research. Studies are designed to follow good research practice including carefully controlled exposure conditions, use of appropriate controls and blinding procedures to minimise subjective analysis. We ensure independence by generally contributing partial funding in partnership with governmental authorities and the use of contract firewalls.

Our contracts with researchers provide them with the independence to interpret their findings and we encourage them to publish in peer reviewed scientific journals so that results are available to expert reviews. GSMA encourages scientific debate through support for scientific meetings of the Bioelectromagnetics Society (BEMS) and the European BioElectromagnetics Association (EBEA).

The GSMA was a member of the Advisory Board for the European Commission funded EMF-NET project, funded 2004 to 2008 and the European Health Risk Assessment Network on Electromagnetic Fields Exposure (EFHRAN) funded 2009 to 2012.
