The first of the Mobile Observatory series of reports to focus on Brazil offers the GSMA’s view into the explosive growth of the sector and the range of services it enables for its citizens. Brazil is the fourth largest mobile market in the world and highly competitive with increasing uptake of mobile technologies and services, including NFC, mHealth, mEducation and mCommerce, which will further shape Brazil’s mobile future.

The first edition of the Latin American GSMA Mobile Observatory provides a comprehensive review of the Latin American mobile communications industry. This Observatory collates the latest statistics and market developments, providing a reference point for participants in the mobile industry, policy makers and other interested stakeholders.

It covers the state of the industry, including the evolution of competition, innovation in new products, services and technologies and the industry’s contribution to social and economic development in Latin America.

The European Mobile Observatory was first published in 2008, and later in 2009, as a comprehensive review of the European mobile communications industry. The 2011 European Observatory has been updated with the latest statistics and market developments. It covers the state of the industry, including the evolution of competition, innovation in new products, services and technologies and the industry’s contribution to social and economic development in Europe.

The 2011 Asia Pacific Mobile Observatory updates and expands on the first Asia Pacific Mobile Observatory carried out in 2009.

This year’s report focuses especially on the positive economic and social impact of mobile broadband, which is having a transformative effect across Asia Pacific. The innovative Mobile Broadband Readiness Index aims to show how key countries compare against one another from a ‘readiness’ perspective and identify the means to sustain growth from a market, regulatory policy and corporate strategy perspective.

This is the first African edition in the GSMA Mobile Observatory series and provides a comprehensive review of the African mobile communications industry. The report focuses on how mobile operators and African governments can work together to continue the remarkable growth story of the African mobile industry.
