Competition is now closed – Discover the innovators short-listed for the judging event!
The competition is now closed and we are pleased to announce the entries short-listed for the judging event. The joyn Innovation Challenge will be judged remotely on Tuesday 5th February 2013. Our judging panel will be based at our GSMA HQ and the candidates will be asked to participate in the judging session via a web conference. Details of logistics will be sent as soon as possible. The companies short-listed are asked to prepare a simple 3 or 4 slide Powerpoint presentation for each entry to help explain their entry and send this by Wednesday 30th January to the joyn Innovation Team.
Submitting your final entry

Following your development and testing using the Innovation Accelerator, you were asked to submit an online form to support your entry. You are asked to confirm that if you are selected for the final judging, you:
- Are willing to attend the judging event remotely (details of the web conference to be confirmed) and that you understand all the expenses of attendance must be borne by yourself, and
- Agree, if requested by the judging panel, to showcase your entry at MWC 2013 and that you understand all expenses for this must be borne by yourself *
Judging criteria – ‘Best joyn Innovation’
The assessment of the judges will focus on the following main criteria of Innovation and Creativity as well as the compulsion of the use case from a consumer perspective. The judging panel will be looking for a novel joyn extension that will clearly demonstrate a potential evolution path for continued RCS innovation.
Additionally, your entry has to demonstrate a genuine value-added dimension with the potential for commercial deployment. It is expected that the entry will be much more than a “proof of concept” that only partially implements the entrant’s idea.
The following is meant for guidance only. It is not an exhaustive list of criteria.
Innovation & Creativity
- How innovative is this extension to joyn and RCS?
- How does this map to mass-market, user interests?
- How obvious would it be for consumers to use this service or application?
- How does it improve or enhance personal communications?
- Does this innovation link joyn or RCS to other communities? If so, how does this benefit the consumer?
Compulsion of the use case from a consumer perspective
- How appealing is the service – visually and functionally?
- How well does it provide an enriched communication experience for the user?
- Does it offer a ‘Cool factor’ or will appeal to a particular target audience?
- Will the service be perceived as a service having a high commercial value by the end user?
- Why should this extension be seen as relevant by the target audience?
