Carrier ENUM Root Directory

GSMA Carrier ENUM Root Directory Service

Operators, Carriers and Hubs query the GSMA’s ENUM Tier 0 Root Directory to find authoritative sources of Carrier ENUM routing information distributed around the world.  The ENUM Root Directory is offered free to the industry.

Tier 0  Service Explained

GSMA works to recognise national Tier 1 Carrier ENUM registries around the world  that contain authoritative and reliable ENUM data. The address of these registries is stored behind the relevant country code in PathFinder. PathFinder returns the Tier 1 registry address in the form of a NameServer address when a number with that country code is submitted in a query.

Thus the Tier 0 provides a starting point for resolving information about numbers and using standard DNS delegation techniques provides referrals to another database where more information can be found. This allows number resolution to be fully automated for the querying party saving time and money on both data acquisition and maintenance. Use cases.

Quick Start

If a country does not have a Tier 1 registry, PathFinder offers the opportunity for you to place your numbers in the root and create a partial Tier 1, becoming linked to, and discoverable by, the GSMA Carrier ENUM community. See Tier 1 hosting solutions.

Key Benefits:

Allowing service providers and carriers to reduce the complexity of managing multiple, application specific routing tables and data feeds, simplifying operations and architecture.

Routing Automation:

Access routing information via a DNS tree for automated discovery of NGN routing information worldwide.

Globally Scalable:

It allows distributed ENUM databases to be established by authoritative number holders and discovered through a global database hierarchy.

Authoritative Information:

GSMA Carrier ENUM policy ensures that information is compliant with national regulation and managed privately and securely.

Flexibility:
