Estimating the supply side economic contribution of the mobile services industry in a developed country

In two-thirds of the world's countries, mobile services exceed fixed lines. By 2007, it is predicted that there will be more than 1.7 billion GSM subscribers - about 1 in 4 of the world's population - and that global subscriber revenues will be similar in value to worldwide crude oil production. Yet policy makers, the media and the public do not have a good understanding of the significant economic value generated directly and indirectly from mobile communications services.
