SAS for Smart Card Suppliers
The GSM Association's smart card Security Accreditation Scheme (SAS) is a unique industry initiative that aims to further enhance the integrity of the smart card for the GSM community. GSM Association operators can have peace of mind knowing that the accredited suppliers have demonstrated their ability to work to a strict set of standardised security criteria. In addition to the peace of mind that can be derived from sourcing smart cards from accredited suppliers, the scheme also eliminates the need for individual operators to conduct their own audits which benefits both operator and supplier alike. The scheme, which can award security certification for a period of two years on successful completion of an audit, covers the following areas;
- Security policy and procedures
- Information security
- Personnel security
- Physical security
- IT security
- Logistics and production management
The smart card supplier auditing standard and methodology have been developed by the GSM Association in collaboration with SIM suppliers and world-class security auditing companies FML and ChaseWaterford who conduct the audits on behalf of the Association. A brochure describing the scheme is available here.
A number of international SIM supplier sites are currently accredited by the Certification Body and further promotion of the scheme is underway to attract the participation of further smart card suppliers.
